The Science Behind
Microneedling

Microneedling — also called collagen induction therapy (CIT) — uses a device with fine, sterile needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin's surface. These micro-injuries are too small to cause visible damage but significant enough to trigger the skin's natural wound-healing response.

The result: a surge of new collagen and elastin production, new skin cell turnover, and improved circulation — all of which translate to visibly firmer, smoother, and more radiant skin over the weeks and months following treatment.

At ICT Tox, all microneedling treatments are performed by Paige Johnston, RN — whose clinical nursing background ensures proper sterile technique, precise depth calibration, and the medical knowledge to customize treatment for your skin safely and effectively.

Why RN-performed microneedling matters
Depth, sterility, and clinical judgment

Microneedling depth varies by treatment area and skin concern — deeper for acne scars, shallower for fine lines and texture. Getting it wrong causes either underwhelming results or unnecessary skin damage. Paige's nursing background means she understands tissue response, infection control, and contraindications in a way estheticians-only practitioners may not. Your skin is in the right hands.

What to Expect
Step by Step

1
Consultation & skin assessment

Paige reviews your skin concerns, medical history, and goals. She determines the appropriate needle depth and treatment plan for your skin type and concerns.

2
Numbing cream application

A topical anesthetic is applied and left to take effect for 20–30 minutes. This ensures the procedure is comfortable — most clients describe it as a mild vibrating sensation.

3
Microneedling treatment

Paige performs the microneedling pass across the treatment area. Duration depends on area size — typically 30–45 minutes for the full face. If adding PRP, it's applied during this step.

4
Post-treatment care & instructions

A soothing serum is applied. Paige provides detailed aftercare instructions. Expect redness similar to a mild sunburn for 24–48 hours. Makeup can typically be worn the next day.

5
Results develop over weeks

Initial glow visible within days. Collagen remodeling continues for 3–6 months. Most clients schedule a series of 3–6 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart for optimal results.

Skin Concerns Microneedling
Effectively Addresses

Microneedling is one of the most versatile skin treatments available — effective across a wide range of concerns and all skin types and tones, including darker complexions where some laser treatments carry pigmentation risks.

Acne Scars

One of the most effective treatments for atrophic (pitted) acne scars. Microneedling breaks up old scar tissue and stimulates fresh collagen to fill and smooth depressed areas. A series of 4–6 sessions typically produces dramatic improvement.

Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Collagen induction therapy plumps fine lines and early wrinkles from within — particularly effective on areas like under-eye crepiness, upper lip lines, and superficial forehead lines that Botox alone may not fully address.

Large Pores

Enlarged pores shrink significantly with a series of microneedling treatments as collagen builds up around the pore walls, tightening and minimizing their appearance for a smoother, more refined skin texture overall.

Hyperpigmentation & Sun Damage

Accelerated cell turnover from microneedling helps fade dark spots, sun damage, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — revealing a more even, luminous complexion. Safe for all skin tones.

Skin Laxity & Firmness

New collagen and elastin production tightens and firms skin over time — improving sagging, crepiness, and loss of definition in the face, neck, and décolletage. Results continue developing for up to 6 months.

Stretch Marks

Microneedling is one of the few non-surgical treatments that can visibly improve the appearance of stretch marks by breaking down old scar tissue and stimulating new collagen in the affected area.

Add PRP for
Enhanced Results

PRP — platelet-rich plasma, sometimes called "liquid gold" — takes your microneedling results to a significantly higher level. Your own blood is drawn, processed to concentrate the platelets, and applied topically during the microneedling treatment.

The micro-channels created by the needles allow the PRP's growth factors to penetrate deep into the skin, amplifying the collagen response, accelerating healing, and dramatically enhancing the final result.

Microneedling alone
Strong collagen stimulation
24–48 hour recovery
Results visible over 4–8 weeks
Effective for all skin concerns
Most affordable option
Microneedling + PRP
Amplified collagen response
Faster healing & less downtime
More dramatic, accelerated results
Especially powerful for scars
Uses your own natural growth factors
PRP Microneedling
Your skin's own
healing power, amplified

PRP contains concentrated growth factors that signal your skin's repair mechanisms to work harder and faster. Combined with the micro-channels created by needling, PRP penetrates where topical products simply can't reach — producing results that outperform either treatment alone.

1
A small blood draw — similar to a standard lab draw
2
Blood is centrifuged to separate and concentrate platelets
3
PRP applied to skin during microneedling — absorbed through micro-channels
4
Growth factors remain active in the skin for up to a week post-treatment

How Many Sessions
Do You Need?

Microneedling delivers cumulative results — each session builds on the last. The right number of treatments depends on your skin concerns and goals. Paige will recommend a personalized plan during your consultation.

1–2
sessions
Maintenance & skin glow

For clients with minimal concerns looking to refresh skin texture, improve radiance, and maintain results. A great annual or bi-annual treatment for healthy skin upkeep.

3–4
sessions
Moderate concerns

For fine lines, mild texture irregularities, early sun damage, or mild acne scarring. Spaced 4–6 weeks apart, this series produces meaningful, lasting improvement in skin quality.

5–6
sessions
Significant concerns

Recommended for moderate-to-severe acne scarring, significant texture issues, deeper hyperpigmentation, or stretch marks. Adding PRP to this series produces the most dramatic outcomes.

Post-Treatment
Instructions

Following these guidelines protects your results and minimizes downtime.

What to do (and avoid) after microneedling
Expect redness for 24–48 hours — similar to a mild sunburn. This is normal and part of the healing process.
Keep skin clean and hydrated. Use gentle, fragrance-free products only for the first 72 hours.
Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 72 hours. Apply SPF daily — especially in the weeks following treatment.
Skip makeup for 24 hours. Most clients can apply makeup the following day with clean brushes.
Avoid retinols, acids (AHA/BHA), and active skincare for 3–5 days post-treatment.
No swimming, saunas, or heavy exercise for 24–48 hours after treatment.
Mild flaking or peeling in days 3–5 is normal — do not pick or exfoliate, let skin shed naturally.

Microneedling FAQ —
Wichita, KS

Microneedling uses a device with fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. This triggers the body's healing response — stimulating collagen and elastin production that firms, smooths, and improves the skin's overall appearance. It's sometimes called collagen induction therapy (CIT) for this reason.
A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment, making the procedure very comfortable. Most clients describe a mild vibrating or scratching sensation — not pain. The numbing cream takes 20–30 minutes to take full effect, so plan for a 60–90 minute total appointment time.
Most clients benefit from 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. The exact number depends on your skin concerns — 1–2 sessions for maintenance and glow, 3–4 for moderate concerns, and 5–6 for deeper acne scarring or significant texture issues. Paige will recommend a personalized plan during your consultation.
Most clients experience redness similar to a mild sunburn for 24–48 hours. Mild flaking or dryness may occur for 3–5 days as the skin renews itself. Most people can return to normal activities within 24 hours and apply makeup the following day. Avoid direct sun exposure and active skincare ingredients for a few days post-treatment.
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) microneedling combines standard microneedling with the topical application of your own concentrated platelets during the treatment. The growth factors in PRP amplify the collagen response, accelerate healing, and produce significantly enhanced results — especially for acne scarring. Ask Paige if PRP is right for your skin goals.
Yes — microneedling is safe for all skin tones, including deeper complexions. Unlike some laser treatments that carry pigmentation risks for darker skin, microneedling uses mechanical stimulation rather than heat, making it a safer choice for melanin-rich skin. Paige will adjust needle depth and technique for your specific skin type.
Initial improvement in skin radiance and texture is often visible within a week as the skin renews. More significant collagen remodeling results — scar improvement, firming, pore reduction — develop over 4–8 weeks and continue building for up to 6 months after each session. Results are cumulative with each treatment in a series.
Yes — Botox and microneedling are complementary treatments. Botox addresses dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, while microneedling improves overall skin quality, texture, and static lines. Many ICT Tox clients incorporate both into their skincare plan. Paige typically recommends spacing them 2 weeks apart if done in the same period.
